VIDEO DIA LOGHI 2012 art video festival and artist videos (2012)

Tuesday, 11th December 2012 at 06.30 PM, the Twelfth edition of Video Dialogues, the art video and artists video festival will be inaugurated at Velan Center. From the 12th to 14th December Velan proposes the projection of the videos from the section Loop International, dedicated to artists coming from different nations and divided into two sections, one curated by the Danish Michel Chang, and a second, Letters from the sky, curated by South African Kai Lossgott. Letters from the sky proposes experimental films about climatic changes, a selection of works of about one hour, created by 40 international artists and directors coming from all over the world. Many people among us is feeling helpless – explains the curator – the progressive destruction of the planet operated by humankind, and the dark predictions for the future are worrying us, but we do not only have bad news. The change in climate is the social movement which touches every one of us, apart from ethnic identity, genre, class, age or religion. The change in climate is the youth movement of the XXI century.

I have been invited to be the curator of this edition of Loop – explains Michael Chang –  and since I am not a professional art curator, I felt a little bit baffled. I didn’t want to choose among the works of my colleagues using only my idiosyncrasies, my personal preferences and my prejudices, this is why I have chosen to use a curator criterion for this exhibition: the women I’ve met during my work as digital artist from 2008 until today. In this way Loop 2012 functioned like a convergent lens with which I could study this very special art genre. I often look at the works of these women and I never get bored. The works exhibited at LOOP 2012 are unique and represent our era; they couldn’t have been produced some year ago. It is almost like discovering a butterfly belonging to a specie not yet known, a wonderful butterfly which could exist only in this century.
