Fabrizio CORNELI – For bees and butterflies (2009)

Thursday, 12th February 2009 the solo exhibition by Fabrizio CORNELI (Florence, 1958) will be inaugurated in the Velan rooms, via Modena 52, Turin. The theme of the exhibition is the use of colored shadows falling oblique on the walls. Exactly in this kind of research can be included the two series of works in the exhibition, ‘Busy Bees’ and ‘Long life to Butterflies’. The artist creates, for the first time in his work, projections of colored light, thanks to the use of science laboratory ball bottles, painted in anamorphosis with transparent oven paints. The result is far from the black and white shadows the artist has been using continuously in the last years, it rather bears to mind the light effects of the colored glasses, which, crossed by the sun, lay on the surfaces inside the rooms a bright color dust. Large images in bright colors, with a vague and unlikely pop reminiscence, are displayed on the walls, in a contradictory connection with the bottles, small and compact, which according to their form and installation, remind us a chemical analysis laboratory. Once again his work is structured on the border between the cold, sober, rational process of image production (in this case marked by the presence of the laboratory bottles) and the images themselves, rich and extreme.

Fabrizio Corneli exhibited his works in many public and private galleries in Italy and abroad, such as the Gallery Artiscope in Brussels, the Gallery Mssokhan in Kolbe, the Yokohama Portside Gallery in Yokohama, the Gallery von Bartha in S-chanf, the Gallery Studio G7 in Bologna, the Gallery Studio Trisorio in Naples. We thank Region Piedmont for the contribution. The exhibition will remain open from February 12th to March 20th 2009 in the following opening hours: from Tuesday to Friday from 04.00 PM to 07.00 PM.
