Bill BECKLEY (2008)

Tuesday, 15th May 2008 Velan inaugurates a solo exhibition by Bill BECKLEY (Hamburg, Pennsylvania, USA, 1946. Forerunner and exponent of the Narrative Art in the Seventies, based on the combination of photographic reproductions and written texts used to alter the sense of the images, Bill Beckley still uses photography as a principal form of expression. His photographic works are the result of a precise technique and the elegance and  formalism which characterizes them derives from the way he intervenes on the images, obtaining effective style effects.

Bill Beckley graduates at the Kutztown State University and continues his studies at the Tyler School of art, at the Temple University. In 1970 he is professor at the School of Visual Arts and in 1986 at the New York University Graduate School. Three winner of the New York Council of Art prize, in 1979 of the National Endowment of the Arts prize and in 1997 of the Pollock-Krasner Grant prize. He exhibited his works in numerous private and public spaces: the Galerie Hans Mayer, Dusseldorf, the Park Ryu Sook Gallery, Korea, the Dorfman Projects, New York, the John Gibson Gallery, New York, the Ace Gallery, Los Angeles, the Galerie Daniel Templon, Paris, Gallery 20, Amsterdam, Studio Trisorio, Roma, Bruna Soletti Gallery, Milano. We thank Region Piedmont for the contribution. The exhibition will remain open from May 15th  to July 11th 2008 in the following opening hours: from Tuesday to Friday from 04.00 PM to 07.00 PM.
