Thursday 15th March 2007 Velan will inaugurate 7 Puertas, un Sarabaita y 7 apotegmas, a solo exhibition by the Argentinean artist Pepe BEAS. The works by Pepe Beas (Còrdoba, Argentina, 1955) are created using different media, photography and video in particular. Very plastic video-sculptures where the artist tries to convey poetry to the image, transforming it in a symbolic act which turns upside-down the aesthetic perception allowing thus a new interpretation of the world. The exhibited video installation, composed by six digital photographs on a steel support and six videos, is a reflection about the obstinate and persistent research of the absolute leading us to eternal solitude. The artist reclaims the symbolic figure of the Sarabaita, an ascetic who left the community and doesn’t follow monastic rules and who, through his physicality becomes the subject of the extreme manifestation, revealing himself to be the bearer of the universe. According to the artist point view, the human being explores his inner self to recreate the other and to reach his last purpose: the fusion with the absolute.

Pepe Beas exhibited his works in numerous public and private locations among them the Museo Nacional De Ceràmica (Valencia), Bienal De Aveiro (Portugal) and took part to numerous international fairs such as the Feria Mundial del Video-Art de Barcelona LOOP’00, Art-Miami, Feria Internacional Arco.
