Wednesday 6^th December 2006 the exhibition Generazione will open at Velan, 52, via Modena, presenting works by Willy DARKO, Mariano POYATOS e Sergio RAGALZI. The purpose of the exhibition is to show works by artists coming from different countries but with a common characteristic: multiple identity. We think it is important to try to compare, analyze and criticize in a common experience the works by different artists. The exhibition proposes a compact unity of multiple identities, which coexist contemporaneously without denying each other. Starting from a possible metamorphosis between the work and the author’s personality, we find in the works the necessity to defend oneself from what is outside. It is not a desire to escape, but rather the will to cancel the effects of outer contamination, often too much aggressive and impetuous.

Willy Darko, artist from Croatia but living in Turin, extols the image of the body indicating that it is a superior symbolic act, inseparable from the ethic and aesthetic idea which allows us to interpreter the world. Using photography and video the artist tries to ‘describe’ the Seventies, an historical period characterized by social and political contestations and from many musical meetings. The Spanish Mariano Poyatos, represents the temporary triumphs of civilization over physical space with the simplicity of his iron sculptures.The Italian artist Sergio Ragalzi with his ‘terrible’ figures lets emerge an existential anger verging on despair, without rhetoric or intimacy, thanks to the formal and stylish specificity of his work.
