Bernardì ROIG - LEIDY B. (2003)

Wednesday, May 7th , 2003 Velan will present LEIDY B. by Bernardi ROIG (Palma de Mallorca, Spain, 1965), a work created in 2002 about the obsession of watching, of pleasure and the body. In the first video we look at an “invisible”, obscured film, and we are allowed to ‘see’ the actions only thanks to the soundtrack. In this way the dreamy dimension and the mystery are reinforced. With this work, Roig analyses the dynamics of voyeurism and the disquieting dimension of the artistic imaginary. The exhibitions is completed by 21 drawings, a very strong storyboard of the film itself.

Bernardì Roig has been exhibiting his works in important national and international exhibitions since 1988. He creates his sculptures using moulds obtained taking marks from human models with gauzes soaked in plaster. According to the desired result he chooses to create them in polyurethane resin, sometimes mixed with marble powder, or in steel or bronze entirely painted in white. According to Demetrio Paparoni – Roig works find their central core in a strongly realistic sculpture and they are of not completely far from classic tradition. One of the most meaningful among his works, and his reoccurring theme, is the man of light (2007, bronze, steel, fluorescent tubes and light), exhibited in Milan in the square opposite to Sinibaldi Palace, seat of the Province. This sculpture is not a statue (that is to say static) , according to the intention of the artist it evokes movement, lightness and instability. Predominant element is light.
