Dennis ADAMS (2000)

Thursday 22nd June 2000 Velan will open a solo exhibition by the American artist Dennis ADAMS (Des Moines, Iowa, USA, 1948), in the new rooms of the Velan, Center of Contemporary Art, in Turin, via Modena 52. After the Biennial at the Whitney Museum in New York, the artist will present, for the second time in Italy (the first was at the Rivoli Castle, in POST HUMAN), an unpublished photographic work created in Turin in the last months. In January 2000, after 7 years of exhibition activity in the former Woolen Mill Bona In Carignano, Velan moved to a new seat, in via Modena 52, in Turin, inside a low industrial building in the popular district Borgo Rossini.
Dennis Adams is an American artist internationally recognized for his urban interventions and museum installations that reveal historical and political undercurrents in photography, cinema, public space and architecture. Over the last three decades, he has realized over fifty urban projects in cities worldwide from Antwerp to Zagreb. His work has been the subject of numerous one-person exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout North America and Europe. Since 2001 Adams has been a Professor at the Cooper Union in New York City. From 1997-2001, he was the Director of the Visual Arts Program and Professor in the school of architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has also taught at Parsons School of Design, New York; Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris; Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam; and the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Munich. His work is in many international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen, the Fotomuseum Winterthur, Fonds National d'Art Contemporain, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the Walker Art Center.
