In April 1999, in the in the rooms of the former Woolen Mill Bona in Carignano, Velan will present a solo exhibition by Les LEVINE (Dublin, Ireland, 1935). The artist will present 38 billboards (4 metres x 3). The installation has been created specifically for the rooms of the former Woolen Mill Bona in Carignano.Les Levine, video artist, attended the art school in London and in 1958 moved to Canada. Now he lives in New York. He worked as a designer. He later abandoned design because he felt it was an inexpressive media. He worked also as industrial designer, but he soon understood that this was not the right field for him. In the Seventies he started to work with videos since he was fascinated by the portapaks, coming out at that time. Les Levine was one of the first artists, together with Paik, who accessed self-contained videotape analogue recording system (portapaks by Sony) that became available in 1965, and with that he filmed “BUM”, one of the first road videos. According to Francoise Parfait it was Les Levine the first to create a closed circuit installation using the dècollage temporal (Toronto, 1966), with a delay in transmission of circa five seconds. His solo and group exhibitions, starting from 1964 include: Museum of Modern Art in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund, Kunsthaus in Zurich, Lenbachhaus in Munich, Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Ludwig Museum Cologne, Documenta 6 and Documenta 8.
