Miltos MANETAS (1998)

In May 1998, in the rooms of the former Woolen Mill Bona in Carignano, Velan will present a solo exhibition by Miltos MANETAS (Athens, 1964). The Greek artist, naturalized in the Unites States, will present 'MIRRORSITES', his latest itinerant exhibition with vibracolors and oils on the theme of video games and computers.

Miltos Manetas is a Greek painter and multimedia artist. Manetas attended the ‘Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera’ in Milan. He started his career in Italy, in the Eighties, with a personal exhibition at the Galleria Facsimile. Vanessa Beecroft was his partner at that time, when she also exhibited her works at the FacSimile. Manetas and Beecroft moved then to the United States in 1996 and parted in 1999, when Manetas moved to Los Angeles. Like a ‘post-contemporary’ psychologist, Manetas analysed through his work the connection between computer, videogames and humans. A part of his work is ‘classic’ (oil paintings), the other part is formed by Neen and internet works. Among his most important solo exhibitions ‘Dogs and Cables’ at the Gallery Yvon Lambert in 2005, ‘Neen’ at Gasosian in New York in 2000, his exhibition about videogames at Analix Gallery in 1996 and at Lux Gallery in London in 1999, the painting exhibition at Postmasters Gallery in New York in 1998, the computer exhibitions at the Galerie Philippe Rizzo in Paris in 1997 and at Raucci and Santamaria in Naples in 1995. He took part to group exhibitions, among them in 2005 the III Bienal de Valencia and the II Prague Biennale, in 2000 ‘Migrazioni. Premio per la giovane arte italiana’ at the Centro per le Arti Contemporanee in Rome, ‘Elysia Fields’ at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, ‘Presumed Innocent’ at CAPC in Bordeaux, ‘PICT’ at the Contemporary Art Centre in  Banff, Canada, ‘Il sentimento del 2000’ at the Triennial in Milan. We mention then his group exhibitions at the Museum of contemporary art in Chicago, at P.S. 1 and  at the Guggenheim in New York, at the Foundation Cartier in Cahors, at the Royal Palace in Caserta, and at the Trevi Flash Art Museum in Trevi. Works by Manetas are included in many collections, among them Le Consortium, Dijon, Fond National d’Art Contemporain (FNAC), Puteaux, Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain (MAMCS), Strasbourg in France, in the Trevi Flash Art Museum Of Contemporary Art, Trevi, Italy and the collection of Dakis Joannou.
